Self Care tips

Ideas listed below are simple things that you can do daily or at least several times per week. Self-care strategies are best when their are something you can stick to or work into your weekly habits and routines.

  • Be well-rested. 7-9 hours of sleep is the recommendation for adults. As difficult as it may be, an hour before bed, begin to wind down by shutting off devices. Dim lights if you can. Try having a cup of chamomile tea. Read something inspirational. Finding ways to calm your mind helps you relax and promotes good sleep hygiene.

  • Move your body. Physical activity is good for your mental health as well as your body. Inactivity has been linked to a broad range of chronic illnesses and health conditions. Always make sure to get your doctor’s approval. Something as simple as a morning or evening walk, or taking the stairs can improve your physical health.

  • Stay hydrated. It is recommended eight 8oz glasses of water per day. I find it easier to refill a 16oz bottle 4 times. I try to keep it close by at all times because it is so easy to walk away from it and forget.

  • Eat healthy. It’s isn’t just about avoiding sugar and refined carbs. Crowd out unhealthy food by having plenty of fruits and veggies on hand. Nuts and seeds are also great snacking go-tos. Skip the processed food with a long list of artificial ingredients and your body will thank you.

  • Enjoy the sunshine. Try to get outside and enjoy nature whenever you can. Even if it’s taking your time to step outside to get the mail, enjoy the fresh air. Breathe deeply. Find beauty in the outdoors wherever you can.

Self-care is individual to you. It can last a few moments or an entire day!
